Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the show run for?

The entire show runs for one hour 30 minutes with a 10 minute interval in between Acts.

We have purchased tickets but no longer need them, can we get a refund?

I'm sorry but all ticket sales are final. You are more than welcome to post on our Facebook page and sell them on there instead.

The Ticket Order Form is no longer working?

From the Wednesday 10pm before the show, our online Ticket order ceases. This is so all Tickets can be allocated against payments made during Friday morning, as everyone is busy packing up the costumes, props and sets in the afternoon. Tickets may be purchased 30mins before each show commences from the Ticket Booth at the Theatre as long as your account is not outstanding.

Where do I pay for my tickets?

Tickets can either be paid in cash to your tutor (inside a named envelope please) or to the same bank account as Tuition Fees. There will be door sales at the Theatre depending on availability.

**There will be no classes held the week after 22nd November Shows so that all Tutors, Students and Parents can recharge. Classes recommence Saturday 28th November**

Do I have to make my child's costume?

All costumes are provided by The Ballet Academy and are left at the Theatre at the end of the show. In some circumstances you may need to bring your child to the studio or TBA's offsite sewing office for a fitting, outside of their normal class times.

My child can not make the Theatre Rehearsals on the Saturday/Sunday but I still wish her to be in the show?

These rehearsals are where the girls get on the stage for the first time, learn where to stand, where to go for each part of their dance, see where the set pieces are so they know where to run on and off safely - it is incredibly important to their happiness, that is why they have to be at the rehearsals to dance in the shows. For their own confidence, safety and as part of team all students must attend the Theatre Rehearsals to dance in our End of Year Show.

Does my child wear her dance uniform to the Theatre?

Yes, she will need her entire uniform including dance shoes if applicable for the Theatre Rehearsals.  Please ensure each part is fully named.

What time does my child need to be at the Theatre before their show?

Jazz Gold Medal, Silver Star, Jazz Silver Medal, Jazz Bronze Star and Jazz Bronze Medal need to be at the Theatre 1hr before each show commences.

Jazz Test Three, Jazz Test Two and Jazz Test One need to be at the Theatre 45mins before their show commences.

Ballet Silver Star, Ballet Silver Medal, Ballet Bronze Star and Ballet Bronze Medal need to be at the Theatre 1hr before each show commences.

Ballet Test Three, Ballet Test Two and Ballet Test One need to be at the Theatre 45mins before their show commences.

Tutus & Tiaras students need to be at the Theatre 30mins before their show commences.

What does my child do in-between the two shows on Sunday 22nd November? (This does not apply to the students only dancing in one show)

You can either leave your child at the Theatre to be supervised by us (please include a well-packed lunch/early dinner and drink bottle).

After they have finished the 1.30pm Show, they will get changed back into normal clothes and be taken into the Green Room to eat their food and recharge. They then will be brought back in to the Backstage area at the correct time and have their makeup checked (please ensure to supply their named makeup in a named makeup bag) and handed over to the care of their backstage class helper.

Or, you may pick up your daughter after the 1.30pm Show and bring them back at their allocated time before the 5.30pm show.

It is very much a family decision on what suits you best. If you wish to leave your child with us over the break, we require you to tick the appropriate box on your ticket order form. If you change your mind and wish to pick up your child in-between, you will need to let the Stage Door Volunteer know, so your daughter's name can be crossed off the list. (Please ensure you do let them know otherwise it would be a very scary time for everyone while we look for your daughter).

We have someone who would like a wheelchair seat for the show, are these available?

Yes, there are up to two spaces per show for wheelchairs. Please email if you would like me to book one of these spaces for you.

Is it allocated seating?

Yes. We allocate seats in a first paid, first allocated system. Tickets are not allocated if there are unpaid Tuition Fees or Production Fees. These must be paid in full before Tickets will be allocated.

Can I watch the Rehearsals in the Theatre?

Sorry, the Theatre Rehearsals are only for the students, student Rehearsal Minders and staff of The Ballet Academy. Parents are more than welcome to wait in the Foyer of the Theatre.

Do Rehearsals run over time?

Yes they may run over the allotted time. If for some reason students are having trouble with the staging of their dance, then we will spend longer to ensure all the students feel comfortable and happy. Please understand that we like to make sure the dancers can perform to the best of their ability and that their performance is a positive experience.

Do I have to buy all the Makeup as listed in the Makeup Tutorial?

90% of the makeup is usually found at home already, there is just the special stage lipstick that would be required. It has a blue base to the red which makes their lips look lovely onstage. The Ballet Academy will supply this lipstick and it will be applied by brush to each student, using a brush steriliser between each student. The full size lipstick can also be purchased for a students private use if wished. It is available from Minnifies Online Store and from the brand “Kryolan”. The colour is called L8 (LF417 can also be used) and retails for $26.00 (https://minifies.co.nz/collections/lips/products/kryolan-classic-lipsticks?variant=8894437916787)

Can we get copies of the photos from the Photo Shoot?

Yes, we shall be having a professional photographer. They will then supply each student with a proof sheet and parents will be able to order beautiful photos that will be handed to them in dance class.

Can we get a DVD of the show?

As the price to film videos has skyrocketed over the past few years, we can no longer afford to film and distribute our performances. Some people may be unaware that we have to pay a huge fee (this starts at $27/video) to the licensing company APRA for the rights to the music that is being played as well as the videoing/editing costs of the company we engage to video the performance. However if you wish to video your child there will seats set aside for this purpose, please purchase a video seat, though to avoid copyright issues, you can only video your child for the time they are performing. We are disappointed that we no longer can afford this wonderful keepsake.
