Hair Tutorials

It is not necessary for hair and makeup to be done as listed below for any of the rehearsals leading up to the show. Please just wear your hair as you would for your normal dance classes to all rehearsals.

Please ensure you have your hair as below for the photo shoots and performances.

**How-to Guides are pictured below the Hairstyle Table - Please scroll down.

Two High Plaited Bunches

High Ponytail/Classical Bun Tutorial

For a LOW CLASSICAL BUN - place the hair tie in Step One lower down in line with the middle of the ears.

For a HIGH CLASSICAL BUN - place the hair tie in Step One higher up so the Bun will be visible from the front

For a HIGH PONYTAIL - Please use steps One through to Five

STEP ONE:

Brush hair into a high ponytail. Use a hair tie with good grip and the same colour

as the hair, not bright pink ones.

STEP TWO:

Using a water spray bottle or dip comb in water, comb hair back towards ponytail. This is the correct angle of comb to pull hair back tightly.

STEP THREE:

Using cheap gel (it works great), place all over head. Pay particular attention to all the stray wispy bits behind ears and base of scalp. Use lots!

STEP FOUR:

Comb the gel into the hair using the correct angle for the comb.

STEP FIVE:

Hairspray all over hair and smooth in with palm to get the smoothest look.

STEP SIX:

Divide ponytail into two sections and wet each section and twirl. For ease you can gel each section but it is not necessary.

STEP SEVEN:

Keep twirling one section until it sits on the scalp. Using a U-shaped hair pin, stab it vertically down on the very edge of twirl.

STEP EIGHT:

Push hair pin down so it is flush with scalp and slide in. Repeat many times as you go around to the other side.

STEP NINE:

Repeat with other twirl also travelling in a clockwise direction.

STEP TEN:

Go all the way around until in a bun.

Tip: Last little bits that are really skinny, use the U-shaped hair pin like a crocodile eating the hair and push in horizontally.

STEP ELEVEN:

Place Bun net over the bun catching all little stray wisps.

STEP TWELVE:

Depending on the size of the bun net and bun, you may have to twist and fold back over. Then clip the net in with more pins in at least four different places.

THE FINISHED BUN:

It should ideally be diagonally opposite the chin and just visible from the front at the top of the head.

Note the shine of the hair from the use of lots of gel!

Pigtails - Low & Plaited for Wig

STEP ONE:

Divide hair into two sections using a comb and place into two low pigtails.

STEP TWO:

Plait them and put hair ties in - don't pull ends all the way through.

STEP THREE:

Using Bobbypins to secure in place, take the plaits across each other. For long hair take the plaits around original hair ties and across again. Try to keep as flat as possible.

Two High Plaited Bunches

STEP ONE: Wet hair

STEP TWO: Divide Hair down the middle of head

STEP THREE: Gel one side at a time (otherwise the side you are not using it will dry and become impossible to do anything with)

STEP FOUR: Plait each side

STEP FIVE: Wind each plait around and using bun clips to pin into hair

Pigtails - Low & Plaited

STEP ONE: Wet hair

STEP TWO: Divide Hair down the middle of head

STEP THREE: Gel one side at a time (otherwise the side you are not using it will dry and become impossible to do anything with)

STEP FOUR: Plait each side (as you plait bring the plait to the front of the shoulder so it will naturally want to sit there and not behind shoulder)

STEP FIVE: Hairspray
